Jean Lawrie and "Old St Boswells"

Jean Lawrie, in 1974, published the results of many years of research into the history of St Boswells, Lessudden and Old Melrose. This book, "Old St Boswells", was a compilation of both archival material and the stories told to Jean during her lifetime. When Jean died in 1992, the remaining copies of her book were passed to Roy and Christine Lawrie who continued their sale. A reprint, in smaller format, was made in 1997 with all profits from the work continuing to go to Dr Graham's Homes in Kalimpong, one of Jean's favourite charities.

Jean's memory is kept alive for posterity, by the naming of the street "Jean Lawrie Court" in St Boswells in her memory.

Much of this history section is based upon Jean's work, the use of which has been graciously granted by Christine and Roy.
